2015 WSOP Europe Schedule Announced

Poker players around the world are gearing up for the World Series of Poker, which begins in less than three weeks. Those who want to keep planning ahead can now mark their calendars for this fall, as the schedule for the 2015 World Series of Poker Europe has been released. Slated to run October 8th through October 24th, WSOP Europe features ten events, highlighted by the €10,450 WSOP Europe Main Event, beginning October 18th.

This year will be the first for the WSOP Europe in Germany, specifically at the Spielbank Berlin. “Germany is truly a hotbed for poker talent,” said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart in a press release. “As home country to our reigning Player of the Year and 2011 World Champion, we look forward to discovering new names ready to perform on poker’s biggest stage. Berlin became a logical choice city for WSOP Europe given its proximity to all of Europe, the experienced management team at Spielbank, and the gap of time since a major poker tournament has come to the city. We believe this truly will be the best organized and contested WSOP Europe ever.”

For reference, the reigning WSOP Player of the Year is George Danzer and the 2011 World Champion is Pius Heinz.

wsop-europeAs a nod to the new locale, the World Series of Poker has added the “Oktoberfest” event, a four-starting flight, €550 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em tournament beginning on October 9th. The starting flights are divided into two days with one flight kicking off at 10:00am each day and the other at 7:00pm. This is the first €550 buy-in No-Limit Event the WSOP has ever run in Europe, so organizers naturally expect a gigantic field, hence the four starting flights.

Event #7, €550 Pot-Limit Omaha, is also the least expensive Pot-Limit Omaha event in WSOP Europe history.

The €10,450 WSOP Europe Main Event is, of course, the highlight of the schedule. Flight 1A will begin on Sunday, October 18th, at noon, while the Flight 1B will start exactly one day later. The tournament will last a week with the final table held on Saturday, May 24th. The Main Event, as well as the €25,600 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em Event, will be televised.

“We look forward to this new edition of the WSOP Europe for the first time in Germany and specifically our property in central Berlin at the Spielbank Berlin (Casino),” said Marcel Langner, Spielbank Berlin Director of Operations in the aforementioned press release. ”It`s a great honor to host this event. We are sure all visitors will have a great time in Berlin. We will offer cash game and tournament play, as well as the Oktoberfest special to welcome our guests from all over the world. Welcome to Spielbank Berlin.”

Spielbank Berlin is one of the few hosts of a major international poker festival that does not have an attached hotel. Fortunately, as it is located in a major city, there are plenty of nearby hotel options available for those planning to stay overnight. The closest is the Hyatt Berlin, directly across the street, which is giving special rates (code WSOPE) to World Series of Poker participants.

As one would expect, Spielbank Berlin will also be hosting cash games and satellite tournaments.
