PokerStars ‘Support Your Country’ Promo Eyes New World Record
PokerStars has announced its roughly annual bid to top its own world record mark for the most players participating at once in an online poker tournament, but this time with just a bit of Olympics-tinted flair: It’s a “Support Your Country” extravaganza on February 23rd, with direct entries for just a dollar, or for mere pennies via satellites that are also be offered.
The chuckle, of course, is that nowhere in the latest Stars presser does the word “Olympics” appear. Instead, we get the oblique mention of “To celebrate the sporting feats of athletes from across the world in February…,” which is a hoot.
Anyhow, it’s a great annual (or thereabouts) affair, though it’s not open to participants from the States, France, Italy or Spain, who are either currently blocked from Stars or have to participate on single-country Stars sites, and hence can’t take part.
Last year’s event was won by a Russian player, “M.SlavaPro”, who parlayed his dollar into a $25,000 payday by outlasting the rest of a 225,000-player field. Stars hasn’t detailed what the field cap is this time around, but expect it to be in the neighborhood of a quarter million players.

ONCHAN, Isle of Man – February 7, 2014 – To celebrate the sporting feats of athletes from across the world in February, PokerStars today announced that it will attempt to break its own world record for Largest Online Poker Tournament on February 23 at 13.00 ET.
The tournament will be a $1 No Limit Hold’em contest with a guaranteed prize pool of $300,000, and a maximum field of 230,000 players. If the cap is reached it will break the record set last June when 225,000 registered for a $1 tournament on PokerStars.
Last year’s winner was ‘M.SlavaPro’ from Russia, who won $25,000, and the same prize will be on offer to the winner this time around, with another $275,000 to be shared out among the top 60,000 players.
PLAY THE WORLD RECORD TOURNAMENT FOR FREE
Players will be able to buy-in direct for $1 or win their seat for even less with a range of satellites available. Players who make a deposit of $10 (£7, €8) or more using bonus code ‘RECORD2014’ will get a free ticket to the tournament. In addition, players can battle their way to glory in February with the flag of their choice as their personal avatar at the tables. For a limited time only (February 7-23) PokerStars has made the custom-made avatars available so players can support their country on PokerStars during February.
ENTERTAINMENT PACK
PokerStars players are also being offered the chance to pick up an ‘Entertainment Pack’ in February, comprising 5 x tournament tickets, and a ticket to one of two All-in Shootout tournaments on February 24.
